How To Tame A Iron Golem In Minecraft
For other uses, see Golem.
An iron golem is a large, powerful neutral utility mob that defends players and villagers. It is one of the few mobs that can be built then spawned in the game.
Spawning [ ]
Villages [ ]
- Coffee Edition
In Java Edition, villagers tin summon iron golems, either when they are gossiping or panicking and the following criteria are met:
- The villager has slept in the terminal 20 minutes
- The villager has non detected an iron golem in the last 30 seconds
- An iron golem is detected when it is within 16 blocks of the villager (±16X ±sixteenZ ±xviY axis)
- The villager scans for golems once every ten seconds
- The villager has non been near a summoning in the last thirty seconds
- A villager is near a summoning when it is within 10 blocks of a villager (±10Ten ±tenZ ±10Y axis) who successfully summons an iron golem
- There are enough participants within 10 blocks of the villager, including the villager itself; participating villagers need to fulfill the previous iii conditions
- When gossiping, at to the lowest degree v participants are needed
- When panicking, at least 3 are needed
- A valid spawn point for the golem is found
Note: Currently in version 1.nineteen and the one.xix.one pre-releases a bug has been found that makes the golem last seen & summoned timer 35 seconds rather than 30 seconds, equally reported in MC-254100.[1] [2]
To notice a valid spawn point, up to x attempts are fabricated to spawn a golem within a 16×thirteen×16 box centered on the villager (villager cake position +vii/−eight blocks along x/z axes and ±6 blocks along y centrality). A random y cavalcade is picked and then the topmost cake in that column is selected that is air, water, or lava, and has a "solid-blocking" block underneath,[ verify ] or the block at y=+6 if none such is bachelor in that column. The target location is then checked whether the block underneath has a solid top surface (which is not the same as "solid-blocking"). The target block and 2 blocks in a higher place must not be a total block, nor be redstone-powered, nor be rails, and the two blocks above must not be water. This means the iron golem tin can spawn inside 1-deep water or inside blocks like slabs, fences, and carpets (if other checks pass). Adjacent blocks are irrelevant, and so golems can spawn partially inside side by side solid blocks.[3] However, the spawning iron golem still must not collide with whatsoever existing entities.
- Bedrock Edition
In Bedrock Edition, an fe golem can spawn naturally when a village first generates in the world. Iron golems too spawn in villages having at least xx beds and 10 villagers. The golem attempts to spawn in a 17×13×17 volume, ±8 blocks horizontal and ±6 blocks vertical from the hamlet's heart block, which can be a bed pillow or a bell. For a horizontal coordinate called within the spawn book, the golem spawns with its feet on the highest valid solid surface within the volume at that coordinate.
For a village to spawn iron golems, 75% of the villagers in the hamlet must have worked in the by mean solar day, 100% of the villagers must be linked to a bed, and a histrion must be inside 64-128 blocks horizontal and 44-108 blocks vertical distance from the village center, depending on simulation altitude.
The maximum distance the player tin be from the village for iron golems to spawn can be calculated with this formula:
If the village's original atomic number 26 golem is killed, a new one cannot spawn unless all of the conditions are met. Therefore, a small-scale village does not regenerate an iron golem unless the village is expanded.
If the spawn conditions are met, then the chance of attempting a spawn is 1⁄700 per game tick, which averages to ane spawn attempt every 35 seconds. Iron golems can spawn provided the 2×4×2 space above the spawn point (that is, horizontally centered on the northwest corner of the block it spawns on) contains only non-full blocks, and the block it spawns on is solid.
Creation [ ]
Iron golems are created by placing four fe blocks in a T shape (equally shown in the image), and and then placing a carved pumpkin, jack o'lantern or pumpkin[ Be only ] on top of the heart upper block. The pumpkin may be placed by the player, a dispenser or an enderman, but it must exist placed last. It needs at least one block of space around the bottom fe block to be able to spawn and cannot spawn in a confined area; even grass can prevent an iron golem from spawning. Alternatively, the blocks tin exist placed in any order with an uncarved pumpkin; the role player tin shear the pumpkin to spawn the golem. When successfully transformed, it is naturally passive toward all players under all circumstances. It tin, still, attack the player's tamed wolves, if punched accidentally, but it never straight attacks the player. The constructed golem attacks hostile mobs similar a naturally spawned iron golem.
The block arrangement can be placed upright, lying down, or upside-down. The four empty spaces in the diagram (above and below each of the arms) must be air blocks. Any not-air block (including blocks such equally snowfall layers, grass, and water) present in any of the empty spaces prevent the golem from spawning.
In Coffee Edition, the thespian can place a pumpkin on the four blocks of atomic number 26, then shear the pumpkin. The iron golem still spawns like normal.
Similar other constructed mobs, fe golems always spawn facing southward. Their big size may cause them to take suffocation damage from nearby solid blocks at the level of their head.
Dropping a pumpkin on the correct arrangement of atomic number 26 blocks does not spawn a iron golem.
Pillager outposts [ ]
Iron golems can also be establish surrounding pillager outposts, confined inside dark oak cages. When freed, they tin help the player by attacking whatsoever nearby pillagers. Pillagers do not attack iron golems in cages, although the iron golem tin attack any pillagers that are one block near the cage, because iron golems tin can assault through a one-cake wall.
Drops [ ]
Fe golems drop when they dice:
- iii–five Iron Ingot due south
- 0–2 poppies
Killing an atomic number 26 golem with a weapon enchanted by Looting has no effect on the number of atomic number 26 ingots or poppies dropped. Trading prices are unaffected by the killing of fe golems; however, village popularity decreases by 10, affecting village iron golem beliefs if the popularity ranges below -15[ BE only ].
Behavior [ ]
Fe golems wander around a village in a patrol-like manner, staying shut to buildings and other structures. Like villagers, iron golems do not wander away from a hamlet, regardless of how they were spawned, but sometimes stand up at the border of the hamlet.
An atomic number 26 golem sometimes faces a villager as if they are conversing. Fe golems can spawn poppies in their hands and offer them to villagers, symbolizing the friendly relationship between villagers and fe golems. Baby villagers accept the poppy offered by the iron golem.[ Boulder Edition only ] [4] Attacking an iron golem that is not player-congenital while the iron golem is property out a poppy causes it to take back the poppy and attack the player instead. If the iron golem sees a target while information technology is offer the poppy, it runs away toward the target like before and kills the target instead.
In Bedrock Edition, atomic number 26 golems completely ignore villagers, pushing them aside while walking if a villager is in the atomic number 26 golem's path, but they all the same offer poppies if possible.
If not within a village, fe golems slowly wander effectually attacking hostile mobs, ordinarily making their way to a nearby village. If in that village, the iron golem doesn't exit.
Atomic number 26 golems can walk up a total block tiptop without jumping and walk over a 1 block wide hole without falling in. They avoid water, lava, burn down, and cactus. Atomic number 26 golems are allowed to both drowning and fall damage. When in h2o, they sink, but can still move freely.
When an iron golem'due south health reduces to 75%, cracks appear on its surface. An iron golem can be healed when the player right-clicks the chest of the iron golem with an atomic number 26 ingot. This action consumes the ingot.
Every bit with all utility mobs, atomic number 26 golems tin can be leashed. The leashed iron golem does non try to intermission from the lead when it sees a hostile mob. Instead, information technology looks at the mob while moving. An iron golem that is leashed in mid-air moves its artillery and legs while moving. If an iron golem is leashed to a fence, it attacks the hostile mob but does not follow the mob if the hostile mob goes out the attack range, as the iron golem cannot break free from fence leads.
In Java Edition, when iron golems move when provoked, they expect like if they're taking strides toward the mob. Iron golems that aren't provoked movement slower in Java Edition. Fe golems move faster in Bedrock Edition, as it walks like its normal walking speed, either when provoked or not provoked.
Iron golems cannot selection up weapons or armor, just the player can use NBT commands in Java Edition to give the iron golem weapons or armor, although the armor or weapons are not visible.
Attacking [ ]
When attacking, an iron golem moves quickly toward its target and swings its arms up violently to attack, flinging the target into the air, and dealing vii.5 × 3.75 to 21.5 × 10.75 impairment in Normal difficulty. Fe golems accept a large assault range, allowing them to assault through a solid ane cake thick wall, fifty-fifty without a line of sight to the target. When an iron golem attacks, it too deals a long knockback range. Fe golems cannot assail targets that are three blocks high above the same ground level as the golem.
It is possible for multiple golems to hitting the same target simultaneously, flinging the victim to a height proportional to the number of golems that attacked. The mob/player flung can die from fall damage.
If an iron golem attacks a grouping of zombies, for example, information technology targets one zombie to assail until that zombie dies earlier it attacks a different zombie, even while other zombies are attacking at the same time. The fe golem attacks hostile mobs that attack it in order.
If the mob is flung out of sight, the fe golem attacks the next mob that attacks it. Sometimes, the iron golem might set on the nearest hostile mob if they are in groups.
When an iron golem kills any mob, the player can obtain items dropped past the mob, but no experience orbs. Iron golems that kill a raid mob in Bedrock Edition also causes the mob to drop its raid loot, fifty-fifty when the mob wasn't attacked by the player before it is killed.
Iron golems never attack each other, as iron golems cannot "accidentally" hit another fe golem when attacking.
Provocation past players [ ]
An iron golem built by a histrion never attacks players, even when hit or when the role player attacks another villager or another golem in front of the player-built golem. A histrion-congenital golem attacks the player's tamed wolf if the wolf attacks the golem.
A naturally-spawned iron golem becomes hostile toward a player who attacks a villager near an iron golem. Also, if a actor has -15 popularity or less in a village, or has -100 or lower reputation with whatever nearby villager, naturally-spawned iron golems get hostile to that player until the player's popularity climbs above -xv and reputation with all nearby villagers goes above -100.
A village iron golem retaliates when attacked by a thespian (even throwing an ender pearl at an iron golem provokes it). If a village has more than one naturally-spawned fe golems and a thespian attacks one in forepart of the other(s), all of iron golems in that type may go hostile to the player.
Throwing a positive splash potion or a positive lingering potion does non anger Fe golems.
Provocation by other mobs [ ]
Although they are guardians of villages, atomic number 26 golems are not actually provoked when a mob attacks a nearby villager (in contrast to a role player attacking a villager). With the exception of creepers, ghasts and goats (although they even so can attack ghasts if close), they are provoked when attacked by any mobs, and by the presence of nearby monsters. Even if a witch accidentally throws a positive splash potion at an iron golem during a raid, this does not stop the atomic number 26 golem from attacking the witch. Iron golems are ineffective confronting flying hostile mobs that don't venture into the iron golem'southward achieve, such every bit phantoms.
The list below contains mobs (including players) that can have hostile interactions with iron golems. The fe golem also attacks neutral mobs or hostile mobs that set on the histrion such as piglins or zombified piglins.

Wolf (tamed) | When attacked | In defense of possessor | Tamed wolves assault the iron golem if it attacks its possessor, or the owner attacks the golem. When attacked past the wolf, the golem retaliates. A actor-built fe golem attacks the player'due south wolves if attacked by the wolf. Iron golems and untamed wolves never set on one some other. |

An atomic number 26 golem created by the player or summoned by a command cannot detect raiders through obstructions. Iron golems as well looks down or looks up if the hostile mob is in a higher place or below the iron golem.
Existence attacked [ ]
Zombies (and variants), zoglins, skeletons (and variants), silverfish[ BE only ], spiders, cave spiders, magma cubes[ JE merely ], withers, illagers and witches[ BE simply ] naturally attack atomic number 26 golems on sight and may cause major harm, especially if the mobs attack in groups.
Iron golems have 100% knockback resistance from normal attacks. They can still be knocked back by the Knockback enchantment on swords and the Punch enchantment on bows.[ Coffee Edition simply ]
Cracking [ ]
Iron golems take different stages of being cracked to bear witness their health. When their health is above 74 × 37, they do not take any cracks. When their health is between 50 × 25 and 74 × 37, some cracks appear. When their health is between 25 × 12.5 and 49 × 24.5, they appear more cracked. When their wellness is lower than 25 × 12.five, many cracks are visible.

Healing [ ]
Using an atomic number 26 ingot on an atomic number 26 golem restores its wellness past 25 × 12.5.
Preferred path [ ]

Dirt path Smooth Sandstone | 0 |
Cobblestone Stone | i |
Beds Lectern | 50 |

Spring cost | 5 |
Iron golems endeavour to walk on a i-block-wide path, despite them being two blocks wide. An atomic number 26 golem favors a wider path if it sees 1.
Climbing [ ]
Iron golems can climb ladders or vines if the ladder or vine is in its path, or if pushed onto a ladder or vine.

Trivia [ ]
- The iron golem'due south belongings out flowers to villagers is a reference to the ancient robots in Hayao Miyazaki'due south animated film Laputa: Castle in the Sky.[7] When baby villagers notice the poppy in its paw, they slowly arroyo, and accept the bloom eventually.[four] Iron golems do non actually selection upwardly poppies; they spawn them in their hands.
- Iron golems do not get into boats or minecarts on their own, although in Bedrock Edition, pushing a minecart on rails into a golem forces information technology into the minecart.
- It is possible for an enderman to cause an iron golem to spawn by placing a pumpkin in the correct position on an arrangement of atomic number 26 blocks previously placed past the player.
